What's home insurance?
Home insurance is designed to protect your house and belongings from damage caused by things like fire, flood or theft.
It's made up of two parts:
- Buildings insurance protects the structure of your home
- Contents insurance protects the belongings inside your home
You can also choose to add some optional extras, like Personal Possessions cover or Home Legal Expenses.
Why choose our home insurance?

vandalism
Protection from theft and damage caused by criminal activity.
Fire and smoke
Cover if fire or smoke damages your home or belongings.

What's not covered by our home insurance
Here are some common things home insurance doesn't cover:
- Damage caused by wear and tear or a lack of maintenance.
- Breakdown of appliances.
- Storm damage to fences, gates and hedges.
- Loss or damage caused by pests.
- Loss or damage caused by pets chewing, scratching, tearing, fouling or vomiting.
- Claims where the excess is more than the value. For example, if the damage to an electrical appliance is £100 but you have a £200 excess, you can't make a claim.
- Claims where you've left your home unoccupied for longer than the 'days unoccupied limit' and haven't told us.

What home insurance do I need?
It depends on what level of cover you want, and what type of home you want to insure.
Combined home insurance
Combined home insurance includes both buildings and contents cover on one policy. It's likely the best fit if you're a homeowner.
Contents insurance
Contents insurance protects the belongings inside your home. It's a good option if you rent your home or you're a leaseholder.
Buildings insurance
Buildings insurance looks after your home's structure, fittings and anything permanently fixed. It's the minimum cover we recommend and is best for freeholders.

Unlike car insurance, home insurance isn't a legal requirement. But it can be useful to have, as it protects your home and belongings from damage, fire, theft and more.
It means you have support if something goes wrong and are faced with an expensive bill for repairs or replacements.
It depends on lots of different things, including:
- the type of home you want to insure
- where you live, including things like the risk of flooding and how safe the area is
- how much your belongings are worth
- claims you've made in the past
There's no one set price for home insurance - everyone's quote is different.
If your bike is worth less than £350, we'll cover it as standard.
If it's worth more than £350, you'll need to let us know about it so we can check if we can cover it.
Yes! Just remember, if it's worth more than £2,000, you'll need to let us know about it to make sure it's fully covered.
There's no set timeline for how long a home insurance claim will take.
It depends on what you're claiming for and how complicated the claim is. Some could take a few weeks, while others could take longer.
