Your dog will be covered for accidents or illness for a period of 12 months from the first date of treatment or until the vet fee limit is reached, whichever happens first. Premier policies bought before 20 March 2022

If you took out a pet insurance policy with us before 20 March 2022, different limits may apply.

If your policy has both a total vet fee limit as well as a limit per accident or illness, then both these limits will apply until notified at renewal. Depending on the level of cover selected, your policy will either be subject to a total vet fee limit of £4,000 (with each accident or illness limited to £1,000 of vet treatment) or £12,000 (with each accident or illness limited to £4,000 of vet treatment) each year.

If your policy has a total vet fee limit only, then this will remain unchanged.

More details on the vet fees limits that apply to your policy can be found in your schedule, or in your policy documents. If you're unsure, get in touch.

Dog and puppy insurance that gives you more protection

Complementary treatments cover

If your dog isn't feeling themselves and your vet recommends alternative treatments, such as physiotherapy or hydrotherapy through a qualified practitioner, our complementary treatments cover may support you both throughout their recovery. This is included with our Basic, Classic and Premier cover levels.

Pets abroad cover

The safety of your dog is important to us, whether you're jet setting or at home. We'll cover your dog for healthcare and emergency costs within certain European countries for added peace of mind when travelling abroad together. This is included with our Classic and Premier cover, or as an optional extra on our Basic cover.

Third party liability cover

If your dog gets into mischief, it's reassuring to know you're both covered against damage to other humans and their property with our third party liability cover if you are found legally responsible. You'll find this included in all 4 of our cover levels.

Dental cover

We'll get your dog back to chewing their favourite toy in no time. Cover for teeth and gums that are damaged in an accident is included in all 4 of our cover levels. Wider cover is available under Premier cover level.

What level of dog or puppy cover should I get?

When deciding what level of cover to get, think about your puppy and your budget. Vet bills can add up, especially if your puppy needs ongoing treatment and vet care.

You can choose from four different cover levels with MORE THAN puppy insurance. So, if you want to cover your puppy against accidents only or illnesses as well, there may be a cover that’s right for you.

Your dog insurance and vet costs

Our in-house vet team, explains the vet costs involved in some common dog accidents and illnesses****:

"There are several different types of tumours affecting dogs, and they can affect any organ. These tumours can be benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). The benign tumours usually grow slowly, and don’t spread to other organs. Malignant tumours usually grow faster and sometimes can spread to other organs. The average cost of treating a tumour is £1,044 based on 2,013 claims."

"There is a great variety of indigestible things that dogs can chew and swallow, and certain breeds like Labradors are doing it more commonly than others. This can pass through the gastrointestinal tract, but can also cause obstruction which can be life threatening. The average claim for treating a consumed foreign body is £1,157 based on 1,936 claims."
