What’s personal possessions cover?
Personal Possessions cover is an add-on to our home insurance. It covers you and your family’s belongings which are meant to be worn or carried. For example, handbags or your mobile phone.
It means they’re protected if they’re lost, stolen or damaged outside your home – wherever in the world you take them.
What does personal possession insurance cover?
It gives you up to £20,000 cover for your belongings which are meant to be worn or carried, including things like:
- mobile phones
- jewellery or watches
- clothes or handbags
- laptops or tablets
- audio visual equipment, like portable speakers or headphones
- sporting equipment, like golf clubs
It means you can make a claim if your belongings are stolen or damaged away from your home, anywhere in the world.

High risk items
Some of your belongings might be classed as 'high-risk' - for example, expensive jewellery or musical instruments. You'll need to specify them on your policy so we can give you the right cover. Head over to our high risk item page to find out more.
What’s not covered?
There are a few things we don’t cover:
- Wear and tear - that means damage that happens gradually over time.
- Items left unattended - for example, if you left your laptop in a coffee shop.
- Electrical or mechanical faults - if your phone, laptop or other tech has an electrical or mechanical fault.
Check your policy documents to see the full list.
How do I get Personal Possessions cover?
You can either:
Yes. That’s what Personal Possessions cover is for – it means if you take your belongings out of the house with you, they’ll still be covered.
Yes, your belongings will be covered if you take them away on holiday with you.
If you do, make sure you look after them and keep them safe while you’re travelling.
It’s also worth checking what your travel insurance covers you for, as it’ll usually include cover for your personal belongings too.
It all depends on how much your belongings are worth.
You can get up to £20,000 cover with our Personal Possessions insurance.
Remember that the amount of cover you need should reflect the total cost of the things you'll be wearing or carrying outside the home at one time.
For example - say you have four handbags which are worth £1,000 each, but you only ever one wear one out at a time. That means you'd need £1,000 cover, not £4,000.
Yes. Just remember, you'll need to let us know about certain electronics that are worth more than £2,000.
That’s because they’re known as high-risk items, and we need to know about them to cover them.
No, we only offer it as an add-on to our home insurance.
