Bicycle cover is a part of your home insurance policy.

It protects you and your family's bikes against loss, theft or damage.

Whose bicycles are insured?

It covers bicycles owned by you and any family members who live at the same address.

What does More Than Bicycle Insurance cover?

It protects your pedal or electric bikes from loss, damage or theft.

If your bike is worth £350 or less, it's covered as standard on your home insurance – no matter what level of cover you have.

But to cover bikes that are worth more than £350, you'll need to list them individually on your policy.

You can also choose to add 'cover away from home', so your bike will be protected outside your home and anywhere in the world.

That means you'll be covered whether you use it to commute to work or are off on a cycling holiday in Europe.

What doesn’t it cover?

There are a few things your Bicycle cover won’t cover:

  • If you don’t take proper safety precautions – for example, if you leave your bike unlocked.
  • Wear and tear – this is damage that happens gradually over time.
  • Damage to tyres or accessories, unless the bicycle is stolen or damaged at the same time.
  • Loss or damage while the bike is used for racing, pacemaking, or speed or time trials.
  • E-bikes that have more than 250 watts in power output or can go over 15.5 miles per hour (mph) without pedalling.
  • Business equipment – for example, if you use your bike for your courier or delivery job.

How to keep your bike safe

We expect you to responsibly look after and keep your bike safe. Here are some ways you can do that.

Use a bike lock

Make sure you choose a sturdy, reliable bike lock. Having a good lock might even put thieves off from trying to steal it in the first place.

If your bike is especially expensive, we might ask that you use a lock that is gold-rated by Sold Secure. Check your policy schedule in your MyMoreThan account to see if we need you to.

When you use it, make sure your bike is anchored to an immovable object, like a bike rack.

Store your bike safely

If you keep your bike in a garage or shed, make sure the windows and doors are locked. If possible, put a cover over it, so it’s not visible through the window.

Make sure you choose a sturdy, reliable bike lock. Remember that your policy might have some extra conditions on it, like needing to use a specific type of bike lock.

Choose where to park

If you need to chain up your bike and leave it, choose a busy and well-lit area.

It’s ideal if there are CCTV cameras around or even pointed at the bike rack.
