Motorcycle Insurance Quote: what you need to know?
What you need to know to get a quote
MORE TH>N with The Bike Insurer, makes it quick and easy to get a quote, but before you start filling in the online form, run through our checklist to make sure you have all the information you need. The application is divided up into three sections:
- Your Details
- Policy Details
- Vehicle Details
Your Details
- Personal details, permanent address, telephone and email contact.
- Occupation and the industry in which you work.
- Type of motorbike licence and date obtained. Your licence must have been issued in the UK or a current EU country. If you do not hold a licence from any of these countries, you will need to call for a quote.
- Claims in the last five years. You need to supply details of accidents, claims or losses made by you or against you, irrespective of fault, within the last five years. This includes date of incident, cause or description, liability, cost of the damage to your vehicle and whether the claim occurred on a motorcycle insurance policy.
- Convictions in last five years. You will need to supply details of any convictions, fixed penalty points or disqualifications within the last five years. This includes date of conviction, offence committed, points received, amount of fine, the time if you were banned and alcohol reading if over the limit.
Policy Details
- Starting date. This date should be no longer than 30 days in advance of the date of the application.
- Choice of cover. You can choose from Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft and Third Party Only. (See our Motorbike Insurance Buyers Guide for details of what each category covers).
- Number of years motorbike No Claims Bonus. If it is more than four years then you can choose to protect your NCB.
- Voluntary Excess. An excess is the contribution you make for a claim. For example, you might pay the first £250 of a claim, if you choose a voluntary excess of £250. Insurers will reduce your premium if you agree to make a higher excess. You can choose to pay up to £500, which you are then liable for on top of any standard excess in the event of a claim.
- Car licence and date obtained, and whether you have car insurance with a No Claims Bonus.
- Usage and estimated mileage. There are three categories which describe how you use your motorbike: Social, Domestic & Pleasure Excluding Commuting, Social, Domestic & Pleasure Including Commuting and Class 1 Business Use (See our Motorbike Insurance Buyers Guide for details of what each category covers). You will also be asked to provide an estimate of the annual mileage you expect to do on your bike, to the nearest 1,000 miles. The number of miles you do can influence the cost of your insurance.
Vehicle Details
- Motorbike manufacturer. Choose from the drop down menu.
- Engine size. The CC of your bike to the nearest 100cc.
- Year of manufacture.
- Bike model. Choose from the drop down menu.
- Registration of motorcycle, if known, and whether it is an official UK model or unofficially imported.
- Security. Give details of Overnight Storage (Locked Garage, Driveway or Road), Security devices and Secure Markings (See our Motorbike Insurance Buyers Guide for more information on bike security and approved manufacturers).
- Vehicle value. Provide the estimated market value of your motorbike.
- Pillion cover. Some insurers exclude pillion cover, others will provide a discount if you elect to exclude this cover.
- Motorbike purchase date. If you’ve not yet purchased your motorbike you can still be quoted.
