Our hottest holiday destinations for 2017

With Christmas a distant memory and 2017 in full swing, it’s a great time to start thinking about booking a holiday. With the world at your feet and great deals at your fingertips, booking your yearly holiday or simply a short break away has never been easier. But where should you go? What are predicted to be the hottest destinations for 2017, and when should you book?

Never fear, our travel team has done some of the leg work to bring you a rundown of some of this year’s predicted travel hot spots.

South Africa

Despite already attracting millions of tourists each year, South Africa is going to be especially popular this year thanks to favourable exchange rates.  If you’re after a mixture of adventure and relaxation South Africa is the ideal destination.

It really does have it all – from golden beaches to safari parks, beautiful vineyards and the majestic Table Mountain. You certainly won’t be stuck for things to do! It’s also great to visit all year round thanks to the warm climate. For a memorable holiday that doesn’t stretch your wallet too far, be sure you add South Africa to your shortlist.

French Polynesia

While wealthy honeymooners will usually head to the luxury resorts of Moorea and Bora Bora, French Polynesia has so much more to offer than just a romantic getaway. The jewel in the South Pacific, French Polynesia boasts lush green mountain peaks, azure lagoons and beautiful rainforests, and has captured the hearts of travellers since the eighteenth century.

If you want to avoid higher resort prices, head to Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Islands. Here you’ll find adventure, island paradise and seclusion all in one. The best times to visit are from April to October.

Canada is big, bold and beautiful and it’s perfect destination to visit all year round. 2017 marks Canada’s 150th birthday, so why not make a date to celebrate with them in style? While most of the celebrations will be taking place in the capital city of Ottawa, there will be 12 months of events and festivals to take your pick from across the country.

Even without the birthday celebrations as a tempting factor, Canada has so much more to offer. How about trying to spot a polar bear in Manitoba or a trip across the famous Rocky Mountains?

Spain has been a popular destination for UK travellers for decades. However, for 2017, you should forget the Spanish beach resorts you know and love and consider some of the more remote regions off the tourist trail.

Head instead to Asturias and Galicia on the north coast for great hiking terrain and fabulous secluded beaches, or the picturesque regions of Castilla la Mancha and Extremadura on the south coast. Winter months are cold in the north and hot in the south.

If you’ve already paid a visit to Thailand, you’ve probably visited the tourist regions of Koh Samui or Bangkok. However, Thailand has so plenty of highlights just waiting to be discovered.

If you love spicy food, and there is plenty available in Thailand, consider a visit to the Isan region of the country where you’ll find true ‘dragon heat’ in every dish. In fact, every region of Thailand offers a different culture and different foods, so why not create your own culinary tour around the country? The best times to visit are between September and April.

Switzerland offers some of the most diverse and jaw-dropping scenery in the world. While the cities have a lot of charm - the restaurant scene in Zurich and the fabulous riverside location of Bern - it’s the countryside that begs to be discovered.

If you love walking, Switzerland offers a wealth of hiking adventures, from sky-scraping peaks around Lauterbrunnen to undulating green countryside of Emmental. With so much to do here all year round, Switzerland lends itself perfectly to both short city breaks and longer holidays.
