What does Home Contents Insurance cover?

A home contents policy normally covers the things in your home, whereas a buildings policy covers the fabric of your home such as the walls and roof.

New for old replacements

Contents insurance covers items in the home on a new for old basis.

Causes of damage to your home

Contents insurance also covers damage from:

  • >fire
  • >lightning
  • >storm
  • >earthquake
  • >subsidence
  • >theft, and
  • >escape of water.

Accidental damage

You can tailor your cover further to your needs to include Accidental Damage cover. This can include damage to TVs and computers, carpets and furniture caused by slips, knocking things over, or even birds coming down the chimney and covering your home in soot!

High-risk items

You can extend your insurance to ensure high-risks items such as jewellery or electronic equipment are covered for theft. If your item is worth more than £1000 you will need to let us know.
