Ski whizz!

Skiing is probably one of the oldest adventure sports in the world with carvings dating back to 5000BC showing a skier with a pole and the first primitive ski was discovered in Sweden and dated back to around 3000BC. Initially used by the Nordic people as a way to help hunt and perform military manoeuvres, it’s necessary to fast-forward to the mid-1800s to Norway, to discover the roots of recreational skiing, when inventor Sondre Norheim created the stiff bindings which secure the heel allowing a skier to swing and jump whilst skiing downhill. A way of life was born!

Jump on and improve your skills

Ski school is the best place to learn the basic techniques and more advanced moves before honing your skills on the slopes. If you’re inspired by the 2010 Winter Olympics and you want to get involved in competitive skiing then the FIS should be your first stop. Founded during the very first Olympics in Chamonix in 1924 they cover all events from ski jumping to Alpine skiing.
