Jet Skiing Travel Insurance
Need Jet-skiing cover? Look no further...
Ever since James Bond zoomed into shot on an ‘aquatic motorbike’ in 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me, everyone knows there’s nothing cooler than riding a jetski. Even if you’re not escaping from a gang of super villains! Many insurance policies won’t cover you for injury or accident if you take part in more adventurous sports. To ensure you have jet ski cover from More Than you just need to take our optional ‘special sports and activities cover’ and pay an additional premium. It’s important to read the small print too as you will have to pay a standard excess and some elements of cover (for example personal liability and long term incapacity) will not be covered. Read the policy details to get the full low-down on jetski cover.
Jet-ski or sea-doo?
The first ‘personal watercrafts’ were basically small boats that you could manoeuvre whilst standing up. The splendidly named Clayton Jacobsen II, a dirt bike rider, wanted to make the switch from land to sea in his sport, so worked on a prototype jet ski which he sold to the Ski-Doo snowmobile company as a Sea-Doo! Thankfully, in 1973, Kawasaki developed the jet ski and the term stuck, so nowadays we can ‘ski rather than ‘doo!
Jump on and improve your skills
Like any other watersport, you need to keep safe and the best way to do that is through a personal watercraft course at the RYA. Once you’re up to speed with your safety checks, decide what kind of jet skiing you want to take part in. Freestyle jet skiing is all about amazing tricks and technical routines. Freeriding is where you ride your ‘ski like a surfer would, using the waves as a ramp for aerial spins and leaps.
Top spots to try it out
Lake Powell in northern Arizona is in the heart of the Glen Canyon national park with 1900 miles of shoreline and four marinas. Thanks to its recreational area status you’re free to join fellow personal watercraft fans zipping through its clear blue water. Few things beat the sensation of powering through the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Head to Cancun in Mexico to explore the mangroves and enjoy its superb facilities. If you’re looking for somewhere closer to home, try Torbay in Devon, a renowned jet ski-friendly resort which boasts over 20 miles of stunning coastline to discover.
