I’m going on a trip next week and, am about to buy my travel insurance; will it cover me for this?

Insurance only covers unknown events that happen after the policy is taken out. If you have not yet taken travel insurance but have already bought your travel arrangements and only intend to buy insurance now you will not be covered for cancellation or potential losses caused by the erupting volcano in Iceland. We always advise consumers to purchase insurance when booking trips to address this sort of issue.

If I am currently abroad and find that I can’t get a flight home, is there a limit on how much my policy will pay for accommodation or for other living expenses?

Your airline or tour operator may provide hotel accommodation so check with them in the first instance. We will be making ex gratia payments to those customers stranded abroad under the Travel Delay section of the insurance policy, subject to standard policy limits. Please read the terms of your insurance policy carefully.
